February |
February Shutdown - February traditionally produces low visitor numbers for the VGR. To allow the undertaking of a number of important works it was decided to not run trains during February. Works undertaken included:
- Bendigo - Ballarat Pipeline Project The 3 tracks at Muckleford were severed for about 2 weeks in connection with the laying of the water pipeline. Photos
- Muckleford Creek Bridge Repairs Replacement of three piles and the associated works undertaken. Work was completed on Tuesday 26th February. See Photos
- Castlemaine to Maldon Junction Section Sleeper Replacements Good progress has been made with the sleeper replacement task between Rowe Street and Maclise Street. Both the Work-for-the-Dole and the Volunteer Gangs have been working on this project. Work will continue on a regular basis here for some time to come. The present speed restriction will be reviewed as work progresses. Photos
- Castlemaine Station VicTrack undertook resurfacing work on the island platform at Castlemaine. To get materials and equipment onto the site, the VGR ran works trains from Muckleford on Mon 18th and Tues 19th Feb.
