State (Victorian) Government allocates $100,000 for restoration works at Castlemaine Station & Yard. Aim for west yard to be available to trains from main rail system by end 2001.

Castlemaine - Work commences on the track and station building. Trackwork to complete connection with Maryborough Line, refurbish Nos 3 (platform) & 4 (run-around) Roads, portion of No 3 siding as headshunt and construct 250 metre siding to turntable.

Castlemaine - A good deal of site 'cleaning-up' to enable access and storage of materials, particularly at down end of yard undertaken.

Castlemaine Yard - Upgrade work to VGR security compound at the down end of the yard completed by contractor.

Castlemaine Yard- Road Vehicle access from down end of the yard to the turntable area completed.

Federal Government allocates $550,000 for Muckleford-Castlemaine Restoration.

State Government allocates $915,000 for Muckleford - Castlemaine Restoration. Trains to be operating Maldon - Castlemaine by end of 2003.

Recovery of Bridge Materials from former Natimuk Line - Work commenced on 14th July dismantling three timber bridges on the former Natimuk Line at Quantong. In just over two weeks work the small group of workers stripped all timbers, except piles, from the three bridges, recovering beams, cross-heads, decking and steel work (washers, irons, etc.) for reuse on VGR bridges. Transport of the recovered materials to Castlemaine was completed by the 3rd August.

Castlemaine Station - Spouting, downpipe work along No 3 platform and patching work on main roof completed.

Workers for the Bridge Repair Gang are appointed and commence work, restoration of Winters Flat Bridge commences. Restoration of the five timber bridges in the Castlemaine - Muckleford section is anticipated to take one year.

Castlemaine Station- Asphalt repairs / works to surface of platform 3 completed. Contract let by VicTrack, Contractor Boral Asphalt, VGR representative present during works.

Castlemaine Yard- During the week ending 28th September the installation of the catch points within the access road achieved.

Track - Concentrated effort by VGR crews sees existing track between Farmer's Bridge and Sawmill Road (Prison Farm) Bridge dismantled.

Track Relaying - First length of new track is laid, UP side of Farmer's Bridge.
