Negotiations continue with the Ministry of Transport regarding operation of the railway and the granting of the Order-in-Council.
The Society begins training of staff under State Transport Authority (STA) Supervision.
Easter is decided upon as the opening date.
Insurance cover (Public Risk) negotiated.
Civil Engineer carries out inspection of 1st Stage (Maldon Station to Bendigo Road).
Local Engineering Company agrees to manufacture valve piston rings for K160.
Submission to Castlemaine Bicentennial Committee re locomotive (J549).
Castlemaine Development Officer makes representation on behalf of Society to Regional Manager, Northern Regional Tourism.

Track equipment arrives at Castlemaine for work at Maldon.
Piston valves sleeves machined.
Maldon Easter Fair Committee formed to raise money for Society to assist with Easter opening.
Road transfer of K160 to Maldon arranged for mid-March.
Operations Manager - V/Line Bendigo arranges for transfer of Society rolling stock from Castlemaine Yard to Junction of Maldon Branchline.
Locomotive K160 passed boiler inspection.

Maldon Brass Band booked to play at opening.
Catering arranged.
Rolling stock transferred to Maldon Junction and shunted onto Maldon Line by V/Line.
Track inspection carried out.
Trestles inspected.
V/Line makes up staff and ticket equipment, train register books, etc. and gives to Society.
Local CFA Unit contacted re fire prevention at Maldon.

Rollingstock transfer to Maldon commences using APM 0-4-0 diesel.
