Rail Motor - AEC - Test Trips on Maldon Line

Rail Motor - AEC - commenced regular service - two return trips daily between Maldon and Castlemaine. Replaced by mixed train to Shelbourne for one trip three days per week

  Rail motor makes four trips per day Monday to Friday except on three days per week when the mixed steam train runs once per day through to Shelbourne.

  Maldon - The last gold mine closes and the town's population dwindles.

  Maldon Junction - Signalbox abolished with introduction of remote control of the junction from Castlemaine "A" Signalbox. The section of line between Castlemaine and Maldon Junction worked by automatic train signalling.

  The world recession hits hard. The service reduce to two trains a day with the mixed train to Shelbourne on Mondays only. Maldon's population drops to 700.
