Victorian Goldfields Railway

Melbourne Food & Wine Festival - Ales on Rails Specials

Central Victorian craft beer tasting aboard our historic steam train

This year the VGR is hosting two events as part of the
Melbourne Food and Wine Festival

Saturday 1st April & Saturday 8th April

We’re recreating the golden age of travel. Jump on board our historic steam train at Castlemaine then sit back in the luxury of 1920s club and lounge carriages while sampling some of Central Victoria’s finest craft beers. Lunch at Maldon’s Kangaroo Hotel (with more beer) before returning to Castlemaine.

We’re returning to a world of indulgence and decadence in first-class style. Travel by steam train from Castlemaine to Maldon and back, relaxing in luxury 1920s club and lounge carriages while sampling a range of Central Victoria’s finest craft beers. We’ll disembark at Maldon for lunch at the Kangaroo Hotel (with more beer, naturally) before returning to our waiting carriages for the trip back to Castlemaine, no doubt with a postprandial beer to finish the day.

We connect with fast V/Line trains to and from Melbourne, so leave the car at home to enjoy the day to the max. Steam train, beer, food – sounds like a perfect combination.

Trains depart from Platform 3, Caslemaine Railway Station, Kennedy St. Castlemaine at 11.15am.
We return you to Castlemaine Railway Station at 4.30pm..

Tickets include Beer & Food!

The response to our Ales on Rails trains for the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival has been fantastic and we have already sold out . Don't worry. We are now running more Ales on Rails trains during the year. Please click here for dates and information about booking on those trains.
