Membership Information

The Victorian Goldfields Railway was restored by, is operated and maintained by the Volunteers of the Castlemaine & Maldon Railway Preservation Society.

(CMRPS)

Following closure of the Maldon Railway in December, 1976 an unincorporated body known as the Castlemaine & Maldon Railway Preservation Society was formed with the purpose of preserving, restoring and operating the line as a Tourist Railway capturing the steam era of the Victorian Branchline Railway. The Society was incorporated as a not-for-profit company in 1980.

The CMRPS has adopted the trading name 'Victorian Goldfields Railway" for the tourist train operation.

By becoming a Member you support the work of the Society through your annual subscription.
By becoming a Volunteer you will help keep the Railway operating and contribute to the preservation of our unique range of rollingstock and infrastructure.

What do you get by being a member?

  • Two return trips annually on any normally scheduled VGR trains.
  • The opportunity to take part in the restoration and preservation of a genuine Victorian Broad-Gauge Branchline.
  • The opportunity to actively participate in the operation of the Victorian Goldfields Railway. Members can obtain qualification as locomotive driver, firemen, guard, signalmen, station master, booking staff and many more positions vital to the operation of the Railway.
  • Members Newsletter - published monthly
  • Social and special events for members.

Membership Categories

Several Categories of Society Membership are available -

Individualfor individuals of and over 18 years of age. Annual Fee $38.50 incl. gst.
Associatefor individuals under 18 years. Subject to approval by the Board, Associate Membership is upgraded to Individual Membership on reaching 18 years of age. Annual Fee $19.25 incl. gst.
Family2 adults and upto 6 Children (under 18) residing with and under the care of the adults. Annual Fee $77.00 incl. gst.
Corporate membership by an incorporated body. Annual Fee $77.00 incl. gst.
Supporting Business sole trader, partnership, company, trust or other entity which contributes a subscription or benefit to the Society ( in additional to the annual fee ) as negotiated with the Board. Supporting Business Memberships receive a package of rights or privileges relating to the level of subscription or benefit received by the Society. Please contact the Society's office on (03) 5475 1451 for more details on the Supporting Business Membership.

Voting at General Meetings -

Each category of membership, except Associate, is entitled to one vote for each resolution put to general meetings.
