Running of VGR trains to
CASTLEMAINE STATION
commenced on
19th of December, 2004
Although the physical restoration of the VGR between Muckleford and Maldon Junction was completed in late 2003, plans to commence operations into Castlemaine had been "on hold"
pending resolution of a number of administrative issues.
On the 17th of December 2004, Pacific National (successors to Freight Australia), instigated a limited 'closure' of the Castlemaine - Moolort section of the Maryborough Line,
this enabled the VGR to commence operating over the Maldon Junction to Castlemaine section of track under the Tourist Railway provisions.
Services between Castlemaine and Maldon commenced on Sunday, 19th December, 2004.
The first public VGR train enters Castlemaine Station.
