Realigning VGR Track - May, 2005
This view is looking toward Melbourne along No 3 Road. The VGR track has been relocated, a tamper and a ballast regulator are at work on the plain track section, the backhoe is at work replacing damaged point timbers in the turnout. The turnout has been slewed about 5 foot at the toe. The loop line (old down line) has been slewed to the right basically keeping parallel to the VGR track.
Looking 'up' along the relocated loop track (approx. position at this stage). This track has been tamped to allow passage of a ballast train later in the day. The tamper and ballast regulator can be seen at work on the VGR track. The point timber in the foreground is being prepared before insertion under the VGR turnout to the right. The timbers used were recovered from the former crossover at the down end of the yard.
A view from the platform. The realigned VGR track and main-line loop track can be seen. Also visible is the reinstalled crossover from the Maryborough (VGR) track to the loop line. The turnout in the VGR track as been slewed slightly to the up side, while the turnout in the loop line is at a much changed angle. The extent of the realignment of the loop line can be judged by the position of the old up line to the left.
