Smoke box removed.

Since being reunited with its wheels, J549 has seen considerable attention. Testing of the metal of the smoke box showed it to be very thin in parts. These shots were taken after the major portion of the smokebox had been removed. A new smokebox will be manufactured and fitted. J549 is standing on one of the roads around the Maldon turntable.
