J549

On the 27th January 2014 J549 was officially relaunched into service after an almost 10 year absence while it underwent major overhaul. The official relaunch coincided with the launch of carriage 41BU and relaunch of 333Z both having undergone major internal and external restoration during 2012/2013.

The day was used also used to re-name J549 as "Brian Frewin" in dedication of his efforts to both the VGR and the engine itself. Unfortunately Brian passed away after a long battle with Cancer on the 20th of January 2014, just 7 days short of seeing J549 back to her former glory.

The following photos are from Australia Day 2014 when J549 ran complete with smoke deflectors and an impressive coat of paint for the first time in close to 10 years.

The following is a collection of photos of J549 during the major overhaul period between 2004 and relaunch to traffic in 2014.
